Overview report: Groundwater and Farming Systems Water Balance Modelling
By Jane Coram, Warren Bond, Warrick Dawes, Mirko Stauffacher
May 2001
This report presents an overview of the outcomes of the four case studies, and includes recommendations for future applications of the modelling approaches. The main lessons gained from the case studies centre on:
- length and variability of timeframes involved in remediating dryland salinity.
- limited effectiveness of current management options.
- considerable extent of land use change needed to manage dryland salinity.
- implications of differences between the groundwater flow systems
- achievements and limitations of the combined modelling approach.
