March 1990

Images show a rosewood-belah site on the calcareous soils of the States far south west. Canopy cover remains constant over the period at around 10% being dominated by belah (Casuarina cristata) with scattered Rosewood (Alectryon oleifolius subsp). The pasture layer is dominated by limestone copperbur (Sclerolaena obliquicuspis) and a mix of annual grasses and medics. Few desirable perennial grasses are present but the site remains in a stable condition. Biomass is reflected by the deepening drought in the 1996-191999 period. The soil surface shows signs of instability during the dry periods when vegetative cover dropped below 40%.
