Guide to search terminology used in Australia's Resources Online

Australia's Resources Online uses specific terminology to guide you in searching. This page provides help in understanding some of the search terms used.

Select Region terms

In Select Region, you can choose to view data by different regions, including States and Territories, NRM regions or Bioregions. These terms are explained with links to more information.

Natural Resource Management Regions (NRM)

Fifty-seven regions have been identified across Australia for the purposes of addressing natural resource management and sustainable agriculture priorities. The boundaries for each region have been established by agreement between the Australian Government, and State and Territory Governments.

Bioregions (IBRA)

The Interim Biogeographic Regionalisation for Australia (IBRA) divides the Australian continent into 85 bioregions. 404 sub-regions have now also been defined Australia-wide based on major geomorphic features in each bioregion.

  • identify what works (and continue to do it)
  • improve our actions where they are less effective or
  • change them if they are ineffective.
